Centra Autism Program
Centra Autism Program (CAP) provides academic and behavioral services for students (ages 5 to 22) diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our team utilizes principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), sensory integration techniques and other evidence-based interventions. Our objective is to provide the most comprehensive and appropriate individualized program for each student. The ultimate goal of CAP is to return students to public schools with as little assistance as possible. In order to accomplish this goal, staff members work with the child to enhance language, attending, imitation, social behavior and self-care skills. They teach appropriate independent and cooperative peer play, which helps to decrease stereotypical, ritualistic and tantrum behaviors.

About Centra Rivermont Schools
Centra Rivermont Schools are private, non-profit, special education day schools with eight campuses across Virginia. Since 1986, Centra Rivermont Schools have served children with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities, and several years ago began providing autism services. In doing so, a strong emphasis has been placed on strengthening the educational services and implementing research-based techniques. In 2010, CAP was established at four Centra Rivermont Schools (campuses in Danville, Roanoke, Virginia Beach and Lexington) with additional programs to open soon.
Our Team
Classrooms are staffed by experienced, licensed special education teachers and mental health counselors trained in ABA. A board-certified behavior analyst and/or a board-certified assistant behavior analyst provide supervision on-site.
Student Services
- Provided 180 days a year, five days a week, six hours a day.
- Services delivered in one-in-one and group activity settings.
- Sequence of teaching skills directed by each child's IEP and a thorough assessment of current level of functioning.
- ESY services provided as indicated by IEPs.
- Strong emphasis placed on academics, language development, social skills instruction and natural play.
Family Support
