Centra Emergency Mental Health Services
Centra Mental Health Consultation Service at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital's emergency department provides 24-hour crisis intervention for urgent, life-threatening situations.

A psychiatric emergency is a sudden, unexpected occurrence demanding immediate action. For example, when general functioning becomes so severely impaired that the person is at risk of harm to self or others, then immediate attention is needed. Physicians in the emergency department, along with the expertise of mental health professionals and our psychiatric staff, perform risk assessments for depression and dementia, chemical dependency and substance abuse, child and adolescent problems and more, before determining the most appropriate recommendations for care.
